Growing FinTech Startup Searches For Talented Lead Developer

Expensemate - a FinTech startup forged from a collaboration between a C4DI member and one of Hull’s most established businesses - is now expanding its in-house development team.

Launched last year as part of The Rix Group, the holistic suite of products and services provides intelligent insights into company spending with MastercardsⓇ that can be controlled by business owners, an app that intuitively captures receipts and an online portal that streamlines bookkeeping.

"The Rix Group has worked closely with C4DI-based Bespoke Business Solutions, App and IoT Development Agency Sauce to develop the end-to-end expense management solution. We are now looking to expand our development team and hire an in-house development lead," explains Harry Rix, Product Owner at Expensemate.

Despite launching during a global pandemic, Expensemate has grown its customer base sustainably over the last six months. However, this growth hasn't happened without its hurdles. Harry and the rest of the Expensemate team have had to quickly adapt to their customers' changing needs.

"The product was initially designed with the corporate and business world in mind. However, as the way of working has shifted dramatically over the last year, with many office workers now working from home, we discovered that Expensemate could serve other industries," explains Harry.

The key areas Expensemate has been successful in include property management, service, maintenance and repair and agriculture.

"A lot of traditional industries are making the transition to digital and Expensemate is here to support businesses in this journey."

Expensemate aims to save business owners, their employees and accountants time by allowing them to actively manage spending, standardise practices and say goodbye to expense reports and paper receipts. The product gives them clarity and control over everyday expenses - the ad hoc purchases made by employees.

Instead of raising purchase orders or offering unrestricted credit cards, employees are empowered to use the pre-loaded cards to access money for supplies, and data is recorded immediately in the Expensemate app. This allows them to dedicate more time on the task at hand.

"We have moulded our product to the needs of our customers, working closely with them to gather feedback, which we then filter to improve our service and add new features," Harry continues.

Some examples of this in action is the new multi-account access feature on the app for larger clients, as well as the ability to log expenses to a particular job for companies who wish to integrate with job management software.

The increasing demand for new features and functionality has led Expensemate to expand its in-house development resource. They are now looking for a Lead Developer to pioneer this area of the business.

Expensemate has been in a unique position to be able to harness the 140 years of experience built up by The Rix Group and blend it with the forward-thinking spirit of an emerging startup.

"We're excited to open up this opportunity for talented developers who want to own their role as part of a growing, ambitious team. By joining us, you have the chance to be one of the first employees in the door, while also benefiting from working with one of the region's leading software agencies to develop your skills and experience," says Harry.
