Bombyx Partners with University of Leeds to Provide Software to the Innovators of Tomorrow

C4DI-based Bombyx PLM has partnered up with University of Leeds to add PLM to its curriculum and give students a taste of the reality of the fashion industry today, as well as its digital future.

From November 2019, the platform will be available across BA and MA fashion courses at University of Leeds, giving students a real-life glimpse at what their jobs could be like after graduating.

“Bombyx provides fantastic training, with a fully-functional PLM system that our students can use and experience,” enthuses Pammi Sinha, Associate Professor of Fashion Management, University of Leeds.

“The students will fully understand the contexts for how the business of fashion product development happens in the way that it does,” says Muriel Rigout, Associate Professor, Textile and Printing and Design, University of Leeds.

Leeds University is one of the largest higher education institutions in the UK, with more than 38,000 students from 150 different countries. A member of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities, Leeds is a top ten university for research and impact power in the UK and recognised as one of the top 100 of the QS World University Rankings 2020.

“The system is intuitive in nature and user-friendly for students and tutors alike. This experience of PLM is invaluable for our students as they search for careers within the fashion and textile industry,” Pammi adds.

Founder of Bombyx, Lucy Blackley, started her career in the fashion industry and is a former garment technologist and product development lead.

Over the past decade, she has worked with several household names, including Arcadia Group, Very and Next. She has experienced first-hand how product development teams work and believes the current software available isn’t designed around the people using and relying on it every day.

“We help people get back to what they do best, so they don’t have to spend hours of their day (and night) poring over tedious admin tasks,” Lucy tells us.
